After you, Dearest Photography A text by David Levi Strauss on Francesca Woodman
10 €
In 1998, the Fondation Cartier pour l’art contemporain presented the first exhibition in France dedicated to the work of American photographer Francesca Woodman (1958–81), in which she explored the metamorphosis and distorsions of female nude through the evanescent presence of her own body in motion. Nearly 100 photographs were brought together, including a dozen large-format pieces, as well as a copy of the only book published during her lifetime, Some Disordered Interior Geometries (1981). In the exhibition catalog, an essay by David Levi Strauss traced the journey of this photographic prodigy who, from the age of 13 to 22, constructed a singular work, haunted by the presence of the body and death, in which she was the central figure.
