Guillermo Kuitca, Les Habitants

17.50 €

In 2014, the Fondation Cartier pour l’art contemporain presented Les Habitants, an idea of Argentinian painter Guillermo Kuitca. Borrowing its title from a film of the same name by Artavazd Peleshyan, the exhibition plunged visitors into a pictorial and sound environment, in which Guillermo Kuitca built an intricate network between his own art and that of fellow artists Tarsila do Amaral, Francis Bacon, Vija Celmins, David Lynch, Artavazd Peleshyan, and Patti Smith.
On this occasion, the Fondation Cartier published a book elaborated in close collaboration with the artist. It displays exhibition views, preparatory drawings, reproductions of works, and unpublished documents, allowing the reader to discover the artist’s creative process and realization of this exceptional exhibition.

Guillermo Kuitca

Born in 1961 in Buenos Aires, Argentina, where he lives and works, Guillermo Kuitca began painting at an early age and had his first solo exhibition in 1974. In the 1980s, he developed a series of themes - architecture, theater, cartography - which have since then become the major focus of his work. Theater scenes, blueprints of theaters, road maps, pieces of furniture, compose a personal geography associating public spaces and intimate spheres, physical, mental or emotional territories.
